Andrew James was originally trained as a lawyer, having been called to British Columbia Bar in 1985. He then moved to Toronto to focus his efforts on legal writing and community activism. He the co-author of many successful law books on such topics as municipal law, Ontario drinking water legislation, condominium law, fiduciary duties, family law and the liability of directors and officers.
Highlights of Andrew’s involvement in local groups and progressive/green causes in the GTA include:
- Vice-Chair of board of Flemingdon Community Legal Services, a poverty law clinic
- Toronto East Rotary Club member
- Former board member of Women’s Centre of York Region and Junction Community Information Centre
- Volunteer with East York Strategy (youth crime reduction group modeled on the “Boston Strategy”)
- Active member of Citizens for a Safe Environment and Earthroots
- President of Green Party provincial riding association in Toronto-Danforth
A homeowner in the Pape and Danforth area, Andrew along with his wife and two young children are regularly seen in the Withrow Park playgrounds on weekends. His children attend city-run programs at Frankland school and the Eastview Neighbourhood Community Centre, making Andrew a passionate defender of municipal programs for youth.
